Opal Davis Gibson, 86, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully with family members by her bedside after an extended bout with Alzheimer's on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Preston Place II in Kingsport.
She was born in Hawkins County, Tennessee (Caney Valley) and had lived in Kingsport most of her life. She was a past member of Eastern Star and Rebecca Lodge. Opal was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a wonderful friend to all who knew her and will be missed by all. She was a long time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 63 years, Harvey Gibson in 2005; parents, Raymond Arthur and Nettie Ann Linkous Davis; step-mother, Leona Davis; sister, Pearl Fields and brother, Clayton Davis.
Survivors include her daughter, Lois Jones and husband, Bruce of Kingsport; two sons, Benny Gibson and wife Betty Jo of Rockledge, FL and Mark Gibson of Gray, TN; three grandchildren, Josh Gibson and wife, Carol, Alex Gibson and wife, Stephanie and Tiffany Sipe and husband, Kyle; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lakota, Braven Gibson and Connor Sipe
The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 6 pm on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport or anytime at the home of her daughter, Lois Jones.
Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel at 6 pm with Pastor David Salley, officiating. Music will be provided by Doug Wagner.
Committal Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport. Pallbearers will be Charlie Morelock, Joe Watkins, Scottie Calhoun, Roger Musson, Link Jarvis, Dr. David Merrill. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Gibson, Benny Gibson, Bruce Jones, Josh Gibson, Alex Gibson, Kyle Sipe and Tiffany Sipe. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:55 pm.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Preston Place II, Sharon and the staff for their support and love, during mother's stay there.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 311 Cypress Street, Mt. Carmel, TN 37645.

I hope you all know how precious Miss Opal was to me. When I would walk in the door at Preston Place II her face would light up, as would mine. I always called her "my girl" and she called me her sweetheart. I would often talk with her when Granddaddy wasn't in the most talkative mood. I would love to hear stories from Miss Opal.
I know how hard this time is for all of you and my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
