Kingsport
Sherman Coy Monk, 67, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning (October 29, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Honaker, VA and had been a resident of Kingsport most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Odell Honaker Monk, Sr.; one sister, Sue Salley.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Akers, of Weber City, VA; grandchildren, Christopher Coy Roberts, Mason Keith Roberts, Dylan Tyler Roberts and Brandi Rene' Roberts; two sisters, Shirley Grubbs and husband Lou of California, and Mary Ann Sanders and husband Clark of Knoxville; three brothers, Roy Monk, of Kingsport and Clarence Junior Monk, Jr. of Maryland and Gerald Monk of Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with Elder Everette Lett officiating. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 am.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is serving the Monk family.

Sherman was a very good friend as we grew up together. I have often though of him.
