Samuel Abner Hughes, 70, of Kingsport passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Samuel was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, TN and retired from Sullivan County Highway Department after years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel D. and Lodoath Harper Hughes; two sisters, Mary Hughes and Sarah Patterson; one brother, James Hughes; son in law, Isaac Folkner.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Horne Hughes of the home, four daughters, Carol Folkner of Blountville, TN, Nancy Goettsch and husband Rob, of Knoxville, TN, Joyce McNamara of Blountville, TN and Lisa Lane and husband, Danny of Dover, OH; one son, Johnny Booher and wife, Teresa, of Blountville, TN; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one sister, Nina L. Shelton and husband, Mike of Blountville, TN; two brothers, Ray Hughes and wife, Norma of Blountville, TN and Ralph Hughes and wife, Peggy of Blountville, TN; one brother in law, C. D. Patterson of Blountville, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7 pm Wednesday November 4, 2009 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingpsort.
A service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Billy Rines officiating. Music will be provided by Charles Isley.
A graveside service will be held 10 am Thursday at Blountville Cemetery. Family and friends who wish to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:55 am.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Employees of Sullivan County Highway Department.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is serving the Hughes family.
