Vertie Albright Parvin Short, 93, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
Born in Hancock County, Tennessee (Edison) and had lived in Kingsport for over 75 years. She was retired from Miller's Department Store after over 22 years of service.
Vertie was preceded in death by her first husband, Hubert Parvin; father of both her children & second husband, Haskel Short; her parents, David and Rachel Gilliam Albright; son, Charles Parvin; three sisters, Ida Henry, Mozella Light and Dorothy Stidham; two brothers, Lucian Albright and J.G. "Bug" Albright and granddaughter, Lisa DeLeon.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Godsey and husband, Henry of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Dwayne Godsey and LeAnn, Darryl Godsey, Devin Godsey and fiancee, Michelle Harvel, Deneen Brooks and husband, Jason, Charles "Chuck" Parvin & wife, Dawn, Terri Mendenhall and husband, Karl and Chris Parvin and fiancee, Amy; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; several nieces, nephews and special friend, Faye Lewis and neighbor, Mary Davison.
The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 5420- Watauga Street, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 7 pm with Pastor Wayne Baker, officiating. Music will be provided by Tim Hammonds Family.
Committal Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Hite Cemetery, Oak Haven Drive (Rock Springs Community), Kingsport. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1 pm to go in procession. Pallbearers will be grandsons and family.
