Willis H. Smith, 72, of Harvest, Ala., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at his residence.
He was born in Greene County, Tennessee and lived in Kingsport for over 40 years, having moved to Alabama about 5 years ago. He was retired from Holston Defense Corp. with over 30 years of service. Willis attended Temple Baptist Church and was a member of the Greeneville Masonic Lodge and attended the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688. He was also a member of Jericho Temple Shrine Club and the Knoxville Scottish Rite club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Faughn Smith; his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Fred Harrell.
Survivors include his wife, Deanna Taylor Smith of the home; son, Todd Smith and wife Michelle of Madison, Ala.; granddaughter, Whitney Smith; brother, Lynn Smith of Kingsport; niece Cheryl Noland and two nephews, Chad Smith and Chris Smith; mother in law, Ruth Taylor of Greenville; brother in law, Odean Taylor of Greenville; two sister in laws, Carolyn Fillers and son, Cary of Greenville and Rhonda Wortham of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conduced in the funeral home chapel at 6 pm by Rev. Brian Schuler and Rev. Richard Harris
Military Committal Services will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11 am in the Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery, Afton, Tennessee conducted by the American Legion Post # 3/ 265 along with the Tennessee National Guard. Pallbearers will be Terry Noland, Todd Bailey, Seth Bailey, Mark Coates, Elbert Bridwell, Randy Orten, Chad Smith, Tom Murray, Cary Fillers and Cecil Fillers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 Farris Road, Greeneville, SC 29605.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Smith family.
