Hester Bright, 82, of Hiltons, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Sunday night (November 8, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee and lived the majority of her life in Hiltons. Hester was a graduate of Blountville High School. She was a member of Independent Church of God in Hiltons, Virginia where she taught Sunday School & served many years as Secretary Treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Garn Bright; her parents, Rev. James & Mary Akers; her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Ernest & Zina Bright.
Hester Bright is survived by her children, Lanny Joe Bright & wife, Emogene (Hiltons, VA), Karen Sherman & husband, Tom (Kingsport, TN); grandchildren, Phillip Sherman & wife, Suzanne (Knoxville, TN), Steven Bright (Hiltons, VA), Tim Bright & wife, Amanda (Kingsport, TN); great grandchildren, Tiffany Bright, Kitely Sherman, & Madison Bright; sisters, Margaret Harper, Elsie Wallen & husband, Rev. Charles, Libby Roberts (all of Kingsport, TN), Evelyn Kidd & husband, Alan (Mount Carmel, TN), Anne Cradic & husband, Ray (Navaree, FL); Judy Johnson & husband, Skip (Kingsport, TN); a brother, James Akers & wife, Dorothy (Kingsport, TN); a sister-in-law, Daisy Taylor & husband, Stanley; her brothers-in-law, Carles Bright & wife, Ruth (Kingsport, TN) & Lee Bright & wife, Ruby (Weber City, VA) along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (November 10, 2009) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday (November 10, 2009) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Milligan Herron & Rev. Will Shewey officiating. Music will be provided by Phillip Sherman & the Independent Church of God Singers.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday (November 11, 2009) at 1 p.m. at Smith Cemetery in Hiltons, Virginia. Phillip Sherman, Steven Bright, Tim Bright, Alan Kidd, Rev. Charles Wallen, Stanley Taylor, Donnie Mann, Preacher Nat Baker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Sherman, Skip Johnson, Lee Bright, Carles Bright, Rev. Paul Blessing & Fred Warren.
A special thank-you goes out to the Staff of Brian Center in Weber City for the special care of Hester Bright.
