John William "Jay" Patterson, Jr. 80 of Surgoinsville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 13, 2009 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a extended illness. He was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a retired farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Surgoinsville.

He is survived by his sister, Myrdell P. Kensinger of the home.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, 621 Old Stage Rd, Surgoinsville, TN.

A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Cynthia Thompson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Methodist Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post # 9754 of Church Hill. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, (Maintenance Fund) P.O. Box 134, Surgoinsville, TN 37873.
