William E. "Bill" Cox, 88, of Kingsport went to be with his Heavenly Father November 17, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer at the Bristol Wellmont Hospice Home.
Mr. Cox was born October 1, 1921 in Sullivan Co. and raised in the Fordtown Community. He was the son of the late George Golden and Della Mae Snyder Cox. Mr. Cox served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific region. After his tour with the armed services, he put his love for carpentry to use. He worked for Carroll Brothers Construction for many years and retired from Crown Enterprises, Inc. at Crown Colony in Kingsport. He is a member of West Colonial Hills Baptist Church, Colonial Heights, being unable to attend for some time due to declining health issues.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers George Golden Cox, Robert Edward Cox, Charles Clinton Cox, half brother James Franklin (Jim) Cox and sister Evelyn Cox Beck.
Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years Edith Jennings Cox of the home. Sons and daughters-in-law William A. (Anthony) and Debra of Lebanon, Indiana, Darrell E. and Kathy of Gray, and Samuel D. (Dennis) and Tammy of Colonial Heights. Sister and brother-in-law, Margaret C. and Richard D. Ach of Tacoma, Washington. Sisters-in-law, Iva Nell Cox of Sulphur Springs, Mary Ruth Cox and Thelma Jennings Thomas of Kingsport. Brothers and sisters-in-law Lester and Margie Jennings, Earl and Nell Miller of Kingsport. Grandsons Christopher Stacey Cox and wife Kathy of Kingsport, Naaman Lynn Cox and wife Jacqueline of Gray, Aaron Jordan Cox of Gray and Isaiah Samuel Cox of Colonial Heights. Granddaughter Alishia Marie Dinkins and husband John of Kingsport. Great-granddaughter Kaylee Daniele Cox of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport.
Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7 pm with Rev. Earl Miller officiating.
Military Graveside Services will be held at 11 am Friday, November 20, 2009 at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, Blountville, conducted by American Legion Post #3 / 265 and Tennessee National Guard, along with Rev. J. Thomas Phillips. Pallbearers will be his family and friends. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 am
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 Farris Road, Greeneville, SC 29605 or to a charity of your choice.

Bill you will be missed. We will truly miss you sitting on your front porch enjoying each day. My daughter loved to see you sitting their and watch her ride her bike. She would always say I bet that man is so proud of me because I can ride fast. You and your wife are very sweet neighbors. I wished we could have done more for you. I know you are in a better place.
