Hal Ketron

Thomas Hal Ketron, 64, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday February 17, 2010 at his residence.

Hal was born in Washington County, VA (Bristol) and lived in Kingsport all of his life. He graduated from Ketron High School in 1963. Hal was retired from Eastman Chemical Company after over 35 years of service in the crane division. Many years he coached youth baseball, girls and boys basketball in the Bloomingdale and Indian Springs area. Hal was a member of Indian Springs Christian Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. Ketron Jr. and Evelyn Wilson Ketron.

Hal is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Sue Williams Ketron of the home; two daughters, Lesley Ketron White and husband, Kevin of Kingsport, and Julia Ketron Madgett and husband, Mark of Blountville; four grandchildren, Kara White, Sara Madgett, Zachary White and Amelia Madgett; four brothers, Roger Ketron and wife, Pat of Kingsport, Bill Ketron and wife, Kathy of Kingsport, Mike Ketron and wife, Patty of Gray, and Bob Ketron and wife, Robin of Kingsport; aunt, Marietta Ketron of Kingsport; two nieces; five nephews; brother in law, Henry Williams and wife, Jill of Blountville.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 3 pm Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Indian Springs Christian Church. A service will be held at 3 pm in the Church with Mike Beverly, Minister and Gene Fletcher officiating. Music will be under direction of Dixie Mahaffey.

A graveside service will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be sent to Indian Springs Christian Church, Project 41, 5536 Kiowa Street, Kingsport, TN, 37664 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Ketron family.

Sue and Family so sorry for your earthly loss. Having the opportunity to work with Hal as a teacher, manager, but most of all a very good friend, I can say from the first time I met him I knew God placed a special person in my life that I always cherished and respected. Sorry to hear about your dad although being a Christian myself it must be comforting knowing his belief in God. I didn't know him personally but noted the info about being a deacon and sunday school teacher at his church. My sister is in ICU currently (looks like she is going to be okay) and I am spending a lot of time there but you will be in my prayers.

I have known Hal for "Many" Years, beginning when my brother Terry, played Little League, for Hal & Jerry Lawson. I had worked with Hal, in Maintenance at Eastman. He was probably one of my two favorite people to work with, from Flex Maintenance. As an Apprentice Mechanic, Hal was a Positive Influence, always laughing & joking, but also always teaching, & always with that same grin on his face. He will be Greatly Missed.
