William Carl Lane

William Carl Lane, 80, of Gate City passed away late Tuesday night (March 2, 2010) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Scott County. Mr. Lane retired from Holston Defense with over 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his son, William Harold Lane; his parents, Thomas A. & Alpha Peters Lane; a sister, Mabel Lane along with a brother, R. L. Lane.

William Carl Lane is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Faye Casteel Lane; his daughters, Linda Lane Carter & husband, Allen, Wanda Lane Ward & husband, Terry (both of Kingsport, TN), Donna Lane Bewley & husband, Richard (Mount Carmel, TN); his grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Carter, Stacy Stacey & husband, Jon, Levi Vermillion & Brittany Franklin, Laura Brooke Cline, Hayley Paige Vermillion; his great grandchildren, Tyler Cline & Madison Stacey; his step-mother, Alma Kinkead (Gate City, VA); a sister, Ann Hass & husband, Dearl (Gate City, VA); brothers, Glen Lane & wife, June (Gate City, VA), Denny Lane & wife, Nancy (Kingsport, TN), Sherman (Buddy) Lane & wife, Annie (Gate City, VA) along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday (March 6, 2010) at Scott County Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday (March 6, 2010) at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg DePriest officiating.

A graveside service will follow on Saturday (March 6, 2010) at Holston View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Lane family.

I'm so sorry to hear about Carl's passing. Because of a nasty cold, I will not attend his visitation and funeral. I certainly don't want to infect others. I'll be thinking about the family, and keeping you in my prayers.
