Obituary of Betty Jean Cook

Betty Jean Cook, age 91 of Kingsport, TN went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 18, 2024.  Betty was born on June 15, 1932, in Kingsport, TN to Lawrence and Alice Belle Cook.  Betty graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1951, and in 1952, she started her 56-year career with Dobyns-Bennett.  Betty worked in several departments at Dobyns-Bennett, but for most of her time she worked as the Librarian Clerk. Betty was a devout member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. 

Betty loved to cross-stitch, crochet, and of course, she loved to read. Betty enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Bulls; however, her favorite sport’s team was the Dobyns-Bennett Indians.  

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her 11 siblings, Mary Virginia Cook, Nellie Cook, Edna Earle Cook, Elmer Cook, Robert Cook, W.R. Cook, Beatrice Bradley, Lawrence Cook Jr, Jerry “Skipper” Cook, Denver Cook, and Della Cook. Those left to cherish her memory are her niece and caregiver, Angie Goodwin and husband Nathan; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other family members.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 2101 Stadium Drive, Kingsport, TN 37664, (423)-246-9655, https://pvbchurch.us 

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Phil Kestner officiating. Nathan Goodwin, Wesley Goodwin, Bradley Goodwin, Landon Goodwin, Alex Goodwin, and Eric Greer will be serving as pallbearers. Makenzie Goodwin will be serving as honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to arrive at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
